About center

 

KSU liver disease research center is multidisciplinary program that focuses on basic, translational, and clinical research in the field of liver disease. Since its inauguration in Sept 2009 it has been able to establish itself as the local and regional leader in the liver disease research filed. The Liver Center was established to conduct research focused on liver diseases, a major health issue in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Specifically, viral hepatitis as well as fatty liver disease, are the two most common health problems related to liver disease. Adding the burden of development of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The center has established a national platform for liver diseases research; established a functional research center with allocated space, laboratory, and equipment; trained a number of researchers and research assistants; established an effective national and international collaboration; and in particular, has established a national clinical registry and a liver disease biobank. ​

  • To perform translational research in the filed of virology, genomics, and proteomics of liver diseases.
  • To perform large scale epidemiological studies on liver diseases in the Saudi Arabia
  • To perform clinical trials on current treatment regimens in liver disease.
  • To investigate new promising therapies in liver disease.

  •   To create and maintain a National Liver Disease Data Registry and tissue bank
